About Us

Our Story

In 2015, co-founders Dr. David Kramer, Prabode Weebadde, and Dr. Sebastian Kuhlgert recognized the need for a more accessible scientific instrument for plant phenotyping within the research and farming community.

Their backgrounds in the studies of photosynthesis, biochemistry, and computer science allowed them to create PhotosynQ and its flagship instrument, the MultispeQ.

These were created to eliminate the technological gap in the world agricultural industry and to help protect crop yields and strengthen global food security. 

With this in mind, they created a beta instrument and released it to the hundreds of beta-testers worldwide, who in turn helped to develop the project and

make PhotosynQ as it stands today a reality.

PhotosynQ is now a worldwide plant phenotyping platform aiding over 8,000 users in 30+ countries in their growing operations and scientific experimentation.

With cloud-based data collection and easy-to-use online analytics, alongside the most easily accessible phenotyping instrument in the industry,

Prabode Weebadde, Co-founder & CEO

 Trained in Computer Science, Business Administration, and Machine Learning, Prabode has successfully enabled PhotosynQ to expand, improve,  and commercialize its product line.


David Kramer, PhD, Co-founder & Chief Scientist

A professor of Biology and a Hannah distinguished professor in Photosynthesis and bioenergetics, Dr. Kramer is a world leader in the machinery of Photosynthesis and how to measure and analyze it using PhotosynQ's instruments.

Jeffrey Cruz, PhD, Director of Research & Development 

Before joining PhotosynQ, Dr. Cruz worked at MSU-DOE Plant Research Laboratory for 11 years. He is trained in Biochemistry and holds a Ph.D. in Biology. Dr. Cruz leads PhotosynQ’s DEPI research and product management.

With 10+ years of experience and training in Plant Breeding and Genetics, Suneth helps to scientifically validate the various usages of PhotosynQ in customer and company experiments


Rachael Swanson, Operations Manager

Trained in Plant and Environmental Biology and Horticultural Science, Rachael aids PhotosynQ in servicing Enterprise customers and in testing and documenting PhotosynQ's instruments and apps.
